Intermediate Woodworking

$1,200.00

Prerequisites: Except in limited circumstances, the Fundamentals of Woodworking is a prerequisite for registration in this course.  Please call Puget Sound Woodworking before enrolling if you have not previously taken the Fundamentals of Woodworking course but still wish to be accepted into the Intermediate Woodworking class.

We hit the ground running and this more demanding course builds upon the core skills learned in the Fundamentals of Woodworking class. Our expectation is that upon arrival you are able to comfortably use power and hand woodworking tools such as the table saw and have experience performing a variety of other core woodworking activities.

Intermediate Woodworking provides the budding, driven woodworker with a wealth of practical fine woodworking experiences. It will also send each student home with a beautiful, handcrafted end table of their own make as well as several Sketchup designs for some of the more important and fundamental jigs that we will be using in this class.  The expectation is that you will take the information gained back to your own shop and use these plans to build your own versions of them.
Students will also practice a host of useful skills such as how to properly select wood to optimize the overall design, construct half-blind dovetails, better understand optimal workflow and accurately execute on some of the more complicated, "arty" tasks that confront the skilled crafts-person.  Great woodworking isn't about not making mistakes - it is about learning how to execute effectively in a proactive, sensitive and adaptable way that achieves positive outcomes regardless of the fact that we are all still learning.
Techniques learned from this class are easily transferable to other furniture styles. All of our courses focus on building core skills to help the woodworker perform better, faster and more safely. If necessary, class might run over the stated 3:30 end time if the situation calls for it.

A few more specifics:

For the time being I am capping the number of students in this class to only 2 people.  That means lots of personal time with the instructor.

The cost of materials is factored in to the price of the class.
